(Nasdaq: STLD) has pledged $3 million to support the Trine University Fort Wayne campus. The 110,000-square-foot building, set to open in the fall of 2024, will house programs in the university’s College of Health Professions.
When complete, the $40 million building will feature classrooms and laboratories, a Simulated Patient Care Center that will include mock surgery and emergency room suites and exam and patient rooms in partnership with the Parkview Mirro Center.
The facility will also include a library, bookstore, and gathering area in addition to academic support and counseling services, Trine said in a news release.
The funding comes from the Steel Dynamics Foundation Inc.
“As a major employer, Steel Dynamics is keenly aware the role that quality healthcare options play in the attraction, satisfaction and retention of a talented team,” Steel Dynamics CEO Mark Millett said in written remarks. “Trine University Fort Wayne will play a key role in enhancing the healthcare infrastructure of this region, providing trained medical professionals who will enhance the quality of life for all families in northeast Indiana.”
Trine says the new space will allow the College of Health Professions to add new programs such as occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, medical science and emergency medical sciences to its existing programs including physical therapy, physician assistant and surgical technology, among others.
“We continue to be grateful for the ongoing support of the Steel Dynamics Foundation for Trine University’s mission to help deserving students attain their career goals while developing the skills that will meet this region’s needs,” said Trine President Earl Brooks. “Trine University Fort Wayne will improve this area’s healthcare, economy and quality of life. We are thrilled and thankful that so many are supporting the vision for this worthy project.”
The campus will employ 100 faculty and staff and serve nearly 700 students, according to Trine.
The gift from Steel Dynamics is the latest in a series of gifts from donors such as the Surack Family Foundation, Trine trustee Mike Axel and his wife, Natalie, and The James Foundation Inc. in Auburn.
