Strada awards $4M in grants to community colleges

Strada Education Network is awarding a total of $4 million to 11 community colleges throughout the country, including Ivy Tech Community College. The Indianapolis-based nonprofit says the two-year grants aim to support “innovative collaborations” between the colleges and employers in their region.
The Employer and Community College Partnership grant recipients each received up to $400,000.
Strada said in a news release the grant initiative is the first step in a strategy to partner with community colleges “to support stronger regional economies and communities.”
The goal of the initiative, the nonprofit says, is to improve employment and socioeconomic outcomes for students who complete a degree or credential that have historically faced barriers to economic mobility.
“Community colleges have long played a critical role by serving the dynamic needs of both learners and employers in their communities,” Strada CEO Stephen Moret said. “We are thrilled to have the chance to support college leaders and employers who are coming together to provide timely opportunities for learners.”
The grant recipients include:
- Broward College – Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
- Carl Albert State College – Sallisaw, Okla.
- Community College of Rhode Island – Warwick, R.I.
- Green River College – Auburn, Wash.
- Honolulu Community College – Honolulu, Hawaii
- Ivy Tech Community College – Indianapolis, Ind.
- MiraCosta College – North San Diego County, Calif.
- Pima County Community College – Tucson, Ariz.
- Salt Lake Community College – Salt Lake City, Utah
- Surry Community College – Dobson, N.C.
- West Georgia Technical College – La Grange, Ga.
Headquartered in downtown Indianapolis, Strada Education Network says it aims to create more equitable pathways between education and employment.
