The Indiana Department of Education has awarded $10 million in Employability Skills Innovation and Implementation Grant funding to nearly 60 schools throughout the state. The funding aims to help students develop in-demand employability skills to prepare them for the workforce.
The schools are located across 40 Indiana counties. Indiana Secretary of Education Dr. Katie Jenner says there are characteristics beyond academic achievement that are essential to providing a strong foundation for a student’s future success.
“This includes making sure students are equipped with skills like the ability to respectfully communicate and collaborate with others,” Jenner said in written remarks. “The schools receiving this grant will be on the cutting edge of determining how best to measure these important skills, not just through an assessment, but through experiences.”

Additionally, the IDOE announced on Thursday a partnership with All4Ed and BloomBoard to pilot a series of career readiness micro-credentials focusing on communication, collaboration and work ethic.
The pilot will launch in the fall semester at Mitchell High School in Lawrence County, Purdue Polytechnic High School-South Bend in St. Joseph County, and Irvington Community High School in Marion County.
The IDOE says it will work with state and community partners to determine the need to scale the program statewide after the pilot has concluded.
