This week on the Ag+Bio+Science Podcast, hosted by Gerry Dick, University of Notre Dame students Kyle Walker and Katherine Urasky discuss their roles as Field Atlas ambassadors and how the program has helped them.
Walker was last semester’s Field Atlas ambassador and says he was drawn to the program because of the limited career resources in the field of environmental science, which is his focus.
“When I saw the opportunity for Field Atlas, I thought it was a great, great opportunity for me to first explore careers in this field myself, and then spread the word about how people can get into these careers in agbioscience,” said Walker. “These are great careers for people that are interested in environmental science and sustainability and all the other allied fields.”
Urasky, who is the Field Atlas ambassador for the current semester, says the program was her “A-Ha!” moment in helping her prepare for the future.
“The major resources for after you graduate have to do with research, going to get your Ph.D., going into academia, the very traditional routes that people take with a science major,” said Urasky. “So I always felt if I’m not going to go to med school and if I’m not going to go to grad school, what am I going to do? I had absolutely no idea.”
