ACRES Celebrates Cedar Creek Acquisition

Subscribe NowFort Wayne-based ACRES Land Trust is launching a website, booklet and video on its decades-long work protecting the Cedar Creek Corridor following the completion of its 500-acre acquisition phase on Cedar Creek. The organization will debut the projects Sunday during Riverfront Fort Wayne’s Grand Opening of Promenade Park.
The nonprofit permanently protects one thousand acres in the 20 mile conservation area, the largest forested corridor remaining in Allen County.
To celebrate its success on Cedar Creek, one of five conservation areas designated by ACRES, and encourage ongoing support for the place, the land trust commissioned local author Ryan Schnurr to write, “Cedar Creek Corridor: Changes in the Land” an essay on protecting the creek.
“It’s been three decades, and we’re just getting started,” says Jason Kissel, executive director of ACRES, Indiana’s oldest and largest local land trust in a news release. “ACRES will keep adding to the Cedar Creek Corridor and gathering support for more projects like this. By showing what’s possible in one place over many decades, ACRES will inspire participation, expanding our regional conservation areas.”
The ACRES presentation is at 2 p.m. with a booth open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 202 W. Superior Street in Fort Wayne.
