Trine Civil Engineers Place Second in Global Contest

The ASCE Sustainable Solutions Competition: Dog House Challenge was held by the American Society of Civil Engineers on the campus of the Florida Institute of Technology last weekend.
Trine’s student team members included Catherine Webb, Aaron Huckeby, David Gaffand Scott Beckmann.
The team was required to provide a technical paper, presentation and interview and construction of a full-size version of the shelter.
The ease of assembly, commitment to sustainability, economy and aesthetics were taken into account by the judges.
The Trine University team had the highest construction score, but finished runner-up to Hohai University in China.
"Overall, it was a great showing for Trine," said TJ Murphy, instructor in the Reiners Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Trine’s ASCE chapter advisor, in a news release. "A lot of judges were very complimentary and encouraging of our students."
