IU Students to Take Greenhouse Gas Inventories Statewide

Subscribe NowIndiana University students are partnering this summer with local governments in Indiana to take greenhouse gas inventories on a community-wide level. The students will compile data on energy consumption in the communities, diversity of the energy supply and residents’ vehicle types and fuel usages.
The eight students are part of the university’s first Resilience Cohort. The cohort will be hosted by cities, towns and counties who want to make a positive impact on the challenges that surround with climate change.
The collected data can be used to set goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and develop a long-term plan.
Students will analyze the results to help local governments understand the data and implement it in a meaningful way.
Bloomington, Carmel, Columbus, Delaware County/Muncie, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Gary, Greencastle, Goshen, Michigan City, Oldenburg, Richmond and West Lafayette will each complete greenhouse gas inventories.
"I am thrilled that the Resilience Cohort was launched this summer as part of the Indiana Sustainability Development Program," said Andrew Predmore, director of sustainability at IU, in a news release. "Not only are these students developing professionally, but they are also making real sustainability contributions to the state of Indiana by doing the foundational work needed to seriously address the challenges posed by climate change."
