Purdue Veterinary Teaching Hospital Moves Forward

Subscribe NowPlans are moving forward for the construction of a new Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Purdue University. The project, pending formal approval from Purdue’s Board of Trustees, will cost $108 million in total.
So far, Purdue has committed $35 million, which includes ongoing fundraising by the College of Veterinary Medicine, and the state of Indiana has recently approved a $73 million appropriation.
The new facility will house small and large animal facilities, including a new equine hospital and farm animal hospital. The university says the current small animal hospital will be renovated to modernize facilities.
“With this support, we can say that the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine’s dream of having a new state-of-the-art hospital facility will become a reality,” said Willie Reed, dean of Purdue’s College of Veterinary medicine, in a news release.
The Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine is the only veterinary college in Indiana. According to the university, the Veterinary Teaching Hospital provides veterinary care for animals, annually serving more than 16,400 patients through the Small Animal Hospital, more than 1,800 patients in the Large Animal Hospital, and an additional 23,000 food animals and horses through on-farm visits conducted by the Food Animal and Equine Ambulatory Services.
From the fiscal year 2009-10 to 2017-18, hospital caseloads increased by 50%.
