Bayer to Close Mishawaka Facility

Subscribe NowGermany-based pharmaceutical company Bayer has announced plans to close its customer logistics service center in Mishawaka. The company says the closure will take place over an 18-month transition period and will affect nearly 200 employees.
The facility is responsible for the end-to-end customer experience for Bayer’s Consumer Health and Pharmaceuticals business from taking customer orders to delivery and final payment, according to a statement from spokesperson Chris Loder. He says the company made the decision to move away from operating a local service center.
"This will help the company reduce complexity, improve efficiency and enhance customer service," Loder said. "This will also position Bayer to remain competitive in our industry over the long term and ensure that we appropriately meet current and future needs of our customers and businesses for years to come."
Loder adds the closure will not affect Bayer’s six other Indiana sites, which include legacy Monsanto sites representing research and development, product supply and administrative offices for the company’s Crop Science business.
The South Bend Tribune reports Bayer has had a long history in the Michiana region and at one point, employed more than 3,300 people in St. Joseph and Elkhart counties. You can read more about Bayer’s history in the area by clicking here.
