White River State Park Plans Permanent Concert Venue

Subscribe NowThe White River State Park Development Commission is planning to build a $27 million permanent concert venue in downtown Indianapolis. The project, which still requires final approval from the State Budget Committee, will include permanent seating, a VIP structure and artist amenities.
The venue is being funded through a combination of sources. About one-third of the funding will come from the state, with the remainder coming from philanthropic donations and a commitment from Live Nation, which manages the existing concert venue at the site, the Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn at White River State Park.
The commission says the project will be completed over two phases. The first phase will include the construction of the stage, as well as restrooms on the north side of the Visitors Center, and additional site improvements. The second phase, set to begin next year, will include the buildout of the VIP structure, south restrooms, a concrete pad for seating, the permanent seating, the canopy above the permanent seating, and artist amenities.
Carolene Mays-Medley, executive director of the WRSP Development Commission, tells Inside INdiana Business a more specific timeline will be detailed during a public meeting of the State Budget Committee on October 16. She adds the seating capacity for the venue will also be revealed.
The Lawn at White River State Park began showcasing concerts 14 years ago, but the stage and seating at the venue are not permanent.
