Lafayette-based SDI Innovations has launched a subsidiary designed to boost STEM learning among middle school and high school students. Developed in partnership with Purdue University, STEM Education Works provides a curriculum the company says "drives problem solving, collaboration and creative thinking skills to ensure student success in the workforce."

Christine Naab, business development manager for STEM Education Works, says the goal of the company is to introduce students in grades 6-12 to real STEM learning opportunities that are "relevant, impactful, and credible." The curriculum features models that include a semester’s worth of material that will be combined with high-quality robotics technology, according to the company.

"The students work with sensors, robots, lasers, CAD, CNC, and complete other tasks used in industry," said Greg Strimel, curriculum developer for STEM Education Works. "However, it is developed within socially-relevant contexts to help broaden student participation and interest in future Career and Technical Education studies."
