St. Vincent to Open Training Center

Subscribe NowSt. Vincent Health will Wednesday open its $13.6 million William Nasser Healthcare Education and Simulation Center in Indianapolis. The facility sits on the property of the former Marten House Hotel near St. Vincent Hospital, which closed in January 2017.
The 45,000-square-foot facility features hospital training rooms, a skills lab, and flexible spaces that can be modified to simulate different medical settings. It also includes a large simulated operating room, intensive care unit, and labor/delivery room, among other amenities.
Joel Feldman, regional president of St. Vincent Indianapolis, says the new facility is the future of medicine.
"In the past new physicians and healthcare professionals received on-the-job training by treating actual patients," said Feldman. "Their experience was limited, but with the advanced technology available in the simulation center, students and current associates will be exposed to a consistent learning experience in a controlled manner and will be better prepared to care for patients prior to their first hospital encounter."
The facility is named after William Nasser, known by his colleagues as Indiana’s "Father of Cardiology." St. Vincent broke ground on the project in March of last year.
