The Fort Wayne City Council Tuesday unanimously approved a rezoning petition for the Electric Works project.
Changing the property to a limited commercial classification will clear the way for the mix of residential and retail uses planned by RTM Venures. The developer has said construction on the $221 million first phase of the project will begin this year, though it continues to try and secure $65 million in public funding for the project. Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry has proposed $50 million in support from the city.
Earlier this month, a study commissioned by RTM Ventures showed the project would meet demand for office, retail and residential space.
