DePauw Grad Buys Greencastle Golf Course

Lee Tenzer, who is a DePauw University graduate and serves on its Board of Trustees, will change the name of the more than 60-year-old Windy Hill Country Club to Tiger Pointe Country Club. It will turn semi-private and Tenzer says he will guarantee it will stay open at least three years.
The course has served as the home of DePauw University’s golf teams. In addition to the nine-hole golf course, the club also includes a banquet center. Tenzer says a decision on whether the clubhouse will be renovated or rebuilt will come once inspections are complete.
DePauw Head Golf Coach Vince Lazar, who has been named general manager and director of golf of the club, is slated to keep his position with the Tigers golf team. He says the course has faced financial strains and needs improvements. "Lee Tenzer’s love of the college and community has preserved this asset, which we are terrifically grateful for," Lazar added.
Tenzer says "a community is as strong as the opportunities it offers its citizens. Losing the golf course that has served this region for more than 60 years was something I did not want to see happen, as it is an important asset. I am proud and pleased to be a part of assuring that Tiger Pointe continues to serve the citizens, students, and visitors, and at a higher level."
The course’s new superintendent is James Brown, who previously worked for Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville. Shaun Guerrero will stay on as assistant superintendent and Lazar is set soon to hire a head golf professional.
