The evaluation was ordered in December by Governor Eric Holcomb when he tapped Terry Stigdon to lead the DCS.
The Alabama-based Child Welfare Policy and Practice Group is conducting the assessment and a representative from the nonprofit will be on hand for the update. The assessment follows the resignation of former DCS Director Mary Beth Bonaventura, who criticized the Holcomb administration for cutting funding to the department.
The CWG was tasked with evaluating several issues such as funding being properly utilized, the number of caseloads versus current staffing levels, and comparing Indiana’s case load numbers, costs and outcomes to other states, among others.
The update is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the Indiana Statehouse. The DCS will make the initial progress report available on its website.
