Indianapolis International Airport is reporting record passenger traffic in 2017. Nearly 8.8 million passengers breaks a 12-year-old high mark and included record months in January, May, June, October and November.

Last year also included the highest number of nonstop destinations out of Indianapolis since the Colonel Harvey Weir Cook Terminal opened in 2008. New Allegiant Air flights to Sarasota, Florida and Charleston, South Carolina announced at the beginning of this year have since boosted the nonstop flight figure to an all-time high at IND. On average, 145 daily flights now go to 51 nonstop destinations.

In all, 12 flights were added and the airport’s first trans-Atlantic route – Paris – was announced. Other key accomplishments in 2017 include:

• Securing an international nonstop flight (Cancun)
• Alaska Airlines starting nonstop service to destinations including Seattle and San Francisco
• Allegiant’s planned $40 million investment in aircraft and a crew base, which is expected to create 66 jobs and bring in additional flights
