He most recently served as chief operating officer of the Baptist Medical Center in downtown San Antonio. He will begin in his new role in mid-December.
Before working at the 623-bed hospital in downtown San Antonio, Suter held executive positions with healthcare organizations in Illinois, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky.
Lutheran Health Network Chief Executive Officer Mike Poore says Suter stood out because of "many examples of him empowering others to succeed." At Baptist Medical Center, he oversaw the daily operations of about 1,300 employees.
He will succeed Aaron Garofola, who the network announced in June would not remain in the position.
