Local, state and business officials are set to detail another investment from a Japanese manufacturer in Shelby County. A U.S. subsidiary of Kimura Group is planning to build a foundry on 10 acres in Shelbyville, joining 11 other Japan-based employers in the county. The $8 million investment is expected to create 25 jobs.

Shelby County is currently home to a total of 13 international businesses. Leaders including Shelbyville Economic Development Corp. Director Brian Asher have placed a focus on attracting international investment in recent years, and the push is paying off. Last year, several overseas employers announced developments, including Japan’s Ryobi Limited, which is planning a $97.5 million investment and 150 additional jobs, and Nippon Steel which is partnering on a $50 million plant with Sumitomo Metal Corp. Kimura is a supplier to Ryobi and uses techniques including 3-D printing.

Tomorrow’s announcement in Shelbyville will include Asher, Shelbyville Mayor Tom DeBaun and Indiana Economic Development Corp. Senior Vice President for Business Development Rollie Helmling.
