American Legion Honorees Include La Porte Mayor

Blair Milo is mayor of La Porte and holds the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Standby Reserve.
Milo was commissioned into the Navy in 2004, and after two Persian Gulf Deployments, transitioned to reserve duty in 2010. She was elected mayor of her hometown in 2011 and won re-election in 2015.
Indiana National Guard Master Sergeant Alan Thomas Jr. of Gary was named 2017 National Guard Military Person of the Year by the American Legion in Indiana. His military career started in 2001 and he served the country during two overseas deployments in Operation Iraqi Freedom, receiving an Army Combat Action Badge.
Staff Sergeant China Amber Lee is this year’s Active Military Person of the Year. Lee enlisted in 2009 and currently serves as a recruiter for the U.S. Army Recruiting Command in Evansville. Her duties have included stations in the U.S., Germany and Korea.
