Work to Begin on Riverfront Fort Wayne

Work on the long-awaited Riverfront Fort Wayne will officially get underway Thursday. Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry and a host of others will break ground on Promenade Park, which is the first phase of the project.

Construction on the $20 million first phase is expected to take 18 months to complete. When finished, Promenade Park will include, among other amenities, the Compass Pavilion, which serve as the park’s anchor venue for events, an amphitheater and a kid’s canal.

The project is being funded through the city’s Legacy Fund, the Regional Cities Initiative, and private investments. Mayor Henry will be joined at the ground breaking ceremony by Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Director Al Moll, and representatives of the Fort Wayne City Council, Park Board, Park Foundation, the Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority, the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne and Riverfront Fort Wayne investors.

The ceremony is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m.
