The event at the World’s Greatest Racecourse is scheduled next year for September 9th, as opposed to previous years in July or early August. This year’s Brickyard 400 weekend will take place July 21-23.
The racing series says the shift positions the race in a more prime place in its regular season schedule — at the end. In 2018, the Brickyard will become the final race before the kick-off of the 10-race playoffs.
IMS President Doug Boles says "the Brickyard 400 has been one of NASCAR’s premier events for 25 years, and we’re thrilled the race is moving to one of the most important dates on the NASCAR calendar. Our fans will love the excitement that comes with crowning a regular season champion at The Racing Capital of the World, and the cooler temperatures of early September will make the race more enjoyable for everyone."
IMS officials say additional details about next year’s Brickyard 400 weekend will be announced soon. Events throughout the weekend include the Lilly Diabetes 250 NASCAR XFINITY Series race.
