Lutheran Announces $500M Investment

Subscribe NowLutheran Health Network in Fort Wayne has announced a $500 million investment to upgrade health services and hospital facilities. Chief Executive Officer Brian Bauer says the multi-year project will result in more modernized health care that will improve the experience for thousands of patients in the region.
The plan is expected to impact nearly every entity that is part of the Lutheran Health Network. The system says the investment will include a top-to-bottom renovation of Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, including major upgrades to the emergency department and the development of a comprehensive outpatient cardiovscular center.
The effort will also involve the consolidation of two endoscopy suites, diagnostic testing and therapeutics into one advanced care setting and multiple new outpatient centers providing urgent and walk-in care, family medicine and other health care services.
Bauer says design work will begin immediately, and some construction could begin and be complete this year. Lutheran hopes to complete the entire half-billion dollar investment over the next five to six years.
The system says, in addition to improving local health care, the effort will create construction jobs and have a positive impact on the communities the network serves. Lutheran estimates its economic impact in 2016 was about $618 million.
