In a notice to the state, Covance Clinical Development Services says more than 100 employees will be laid off as a result.
The company did not state a reason for the laboratory closure. The layoffs are expected to begin on or after July 24 and the job losses are expected to be permanent. Covance says the affected employees do not have any bumping rights and there is no collective bargaining agreement in place.
The Covance website says the Evansville lab is a clinical research facility which conducts medical research studies on healthy people and those with chronic conditions, including cholesterol, diabetes and obesity.
Covance also has laboratories in Indianapolis and Greenfield.
