Buckhorn Lays Out Layoff Plans

Ohio-based plastics manufacturer Buckhorn Inc. has detailed the timeline for previously-announced layoffs at its Bluffton plant. The company says the Wells County facility will close by the end of the year. In a notice to the state, Buckhorn says a total of 86 employees will be out of work.

The layoffs will occur in phases with the first taking place around June 3 when 29 employees will be let go. Buckhorn says another 27 will be laid off between July 8 and July 22. A third group of 22 will be let go between July 29 and August 12, with a final group of 8 being let go between November 4 and 18.

Buckhorn says while the layoffs will be permanent, all employees have been offered the chance to pursue jobs at the company’s other facilities.

Last month, our partners at WTPA-TV in Fort Wayne reported the plant’s closure. At the time, Bluffton Mayor Ted Ellis told the station the announcement was "sudden and it was a shock to our system."
