France-based Schneider Electric has announced plans to reduce its work force in Peru. In a notice to the state, the company says 70 employees will be out of work beginning May 8.

The layoffs will take place over a 14-day period. While the layoffs are expected to be permanent, Schneider Electric says it is not planning to close the entire Peru facility. 

All of the employees affected by the decision are listed as manufacturing operators. The company says the employees are represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and bumping rights are available in the union’s collective bargaining agreement.

The Schneider plant in Peru manufactures switchgear and switchboard apparatus.
