River Centre will be built at the site of a former furniture factory and feature a hotel as well as residential and commercial space.
The former Jasper Cabinet factory has been vacant for nearly 15 years. Demolition is set to begin Friday, February 10.
The city is working with developer Jane Hendrickson of Boxer Girl LLC on the project. The site of Jasper Cabinet’s so-called "kiln building" is set to become an approximately 80-room hotel through a partnership with Indianapolis-based General Hotels Corp. The remaining space is expected to be used for about 75 apartments and 36,000 square feet of retail and office space.
Jasper Mayor Terry Seitz calls the effort a "capstone project," saying it will "combine with the neighboring Jasper Cultural Center to positively impact Jasper for decades."
Hendrickson is partnering with Cripe Architects Engineers, Taylor Seifker Williams Design Group and CWC Latitudes on the project.
