Athenaeum to Receive Historic Designation

The Athenaeum was approved for the designation in November after working for eight years to earn it. More than 40 landmarks in Indiana have received the designation, which has also been given to about 2,500 landmarks throughout the country.
"The designation of the Athenaeum as a National Historic Landmark has long since been a goal of the Athenaeum Foundation," said Athenaeum Foundation President Cassie Stockamp. "This honor is a testament to all of the hard work and dedication we have poured into maintaining the history and nostalgia of our beloved building."
Officials with the Athenaeum will use Wednesday’s ceremony to display its newly-remodeled first floor lobby, which is part of renovations announced a year ago.
The ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Stockamp will be joined by other leaders, including Indianapolis City-County Councilor Zach Adamson, Indiana Landmarks President Marsh Davis and NHL Representative Frank Doughman.
