Regional Cities Funding Recommended For Three Projects

Subscribe NowThe Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority Board is recommending Regional Cities Initiative funding for projects in Adams, Steuben and Huntington counties. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. will now consider the projects for final approval.
The South Adams Trails project in Adams County will reconstruct two iron rail bridges that will connect trails across the Wabash River. Developers are seeking nearly $498,000 of the total $3.6 million cost.
In Steuben County, the Enterprise Center project is requesting $323,000, which is 17 percent of the $1.9 million total cost. The project will transform a 70,000 square-foot, five-building area near downtown Angola into spaces for offices, business incubators, co-working and industrial training. The RDA says the project will help meet the work force needs of regional employers.
The United Brethren Block project in Huntington County is seeking $1.6 million of the total $8 million cost. The UB, which consists of three interconnected buildings on the courthouse square in Huntington, was once listed as one of Indiana Landmarks’ most endangered places. The project will develop a space the RDA says will foster a "community of innovation and entrepreneurship for people of all abilities." It will also create 35 apartments above the space.
The RDA Board also heard presentations for more projects in Allen and LaGrange counties, though no recommendations have yet been made. The organization says, to date, it has recommended more than $120 million in funding to the IEDC, including more than $71 million in private investment.
