Subscribe NowThe woman considered to be the architect of the state’s Healthy Indiana Plan is expected to be nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to be administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Seema Verma is founder and chief executive officer of Indianapolis-based health policy consulting company SVC Inc. and previously served the administrations of governors Mitch Daniels and Mike Pence. Trump says Verma and Georgia Congressman Tom Price, his intended nominee for secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, "are the dream team that will transform our healthcare system for the benefit of all Americans."
Trump says Verma has decades of Medicare and Medicaid advisory experience and has helped state "navigate our complicated systems." In a news release issued by the Pence-led presidential transition team, Verma says she looks forward to helping the incoming administration tackle the nation’s "daunting healthcare problems in a responsible and sustainable way."
Her expertise has been called upon recently for Medicaid waivers for Iowa, Ohio and Kentucky, as well as assisting with Tennessee’s coverage expansion proposal, implementation of Michigan’s Medicaid waiver and Medicaid strategy efforts in Maine.
In addition to her consulting and state government experience, Verma previously served as vice president of planning for the Health and Hospital Corp. of Marion County and as a director with the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials in Washington D.C. She a master’s in public health from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s in life sciences from the University of Maryland.
