Subscribe NowThe Mind Trust has launched a $32 million capital campaign designed to increase the number of Indianapolis Public Schools students receiving a high-quality education. The nonprofit’s Grow Great Schools effort is designed to improve the educational situation for 7,500 students within IPS boundaries by 2019.
The Mind Trust says one-third, or 15,000 of the 45,000 students with the district, are enrolled in what it calls high-quality public schools. The organization’s ultimate target is to double that number by 2023.
The Mind Trust has detailed a "three pillar" strategy to reach the goal. It involves:
- Equipping innovators with guaranteed autonomy to help launch schools that are held accountable for results.
- Investing in "proven teacher pipelines" and new strategies to develop teaching talent.
- Raising awareness of the reforms and changes by engaging the community, civic leaders and school leaders to build support.
