Hospital Closure Leads to Layoffs

(NYSE: SEM) has announced plans to lay off 103 employees in Fort Wayne. In a notice to the state, the company says the layoffs are the result of the closure of its Select Specialty Hospital in the city.
Select Medical says the layoffs will be permanent. The hospital is expected to close on January 6 and the layoffs could begin this month. "We hope to accomplish this closing with the least possible disruption to the lives of our employees and the community," the company said.
The company, which employs more than 40,000 throughout the county, did not give a reason for the hospital’s closure.
