The Chief Executive Officer of Methodist Hospitals in northwest Indiana says the health system’s board of directors continues to explore the possibility of merging with another health system. Ray Grady also says the possibility of Methodist staying independent remains on the table.

"We have narrowed the list of potential partners and the Board is currently conducting its due diligence to carefully examine and evaluate the potential partners to determine who can best serve our communities," Grady said in a statement Monday. "At this time, no definitive agreement has been made. Our promise is to take our time to thoughtfully evaluate what is in the best interest of our patients, employees, physicians and the communities we serve."

Grady says the health system hopes to have more information on a possible merger by the end of the year. Grady first announced the board was exploring merger options in a statement to our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana in June. He said at the time that Methodist is financially stable and "operating from a place of strength."
