The $13.3 million MTI Center, scheduled to open in January 2018, will feature three basketball courts and a six-lane bowling alley.
The university says it has contracted Fort Wayne-based Michael Kinder and Sons to oversee construction of the facility. The firm is also serving as construction manager for the $8.2 million Thunder Ice Arena.
In addition to the basketball court and bowling alley, the MTI Center will include a fitness center, pro shop, banquet room and bar, outdoor patio, offices and a training room. The facility will also house the Witmer Clubhouse for Zollner Golf Course.
Trine says the current clubhouse, which is located on the site of the MTI Center, will be demolished after Zollner closes for the season on November 1. The pro shop and clubhouse will be located in temporary facilities for the 2017 season, however the golf course itself will remain open during the season.
The university announced the project, originally estimated to cost $11 million, in April. The MTI Center will also be home to Trine’s recently-announced esports program, which will launch in the fall of 2017.
In August, Trine received Regional Cities Initiative funding for the MTI Center and Thunder Ice Arena.
