Cook Donates $1M to IBRI

Subscribe NowBloomington-based Cook Medical has awarded a $1 million research grant to the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute in Indianapolis. The company says the grant will be matched by the Lilly Endowment and be used to support the next phase of growth for the institute.
Cook will join other life sciences companies, such as Dow AgroSciences, Eli Lilly and Co. (NYSE: LLY) and Roche Diagnostics as an Institute Founder and scientific advisory board member for the IBRI.
"We are extremely pleased to have Cook Medical join the IBRI as a founding stakeholder," said David Broecker, chief executive officer of the IBRI. "What makes the IBRI unique is broad-based support from Indiana’s diverse set of leading life sciences and technology companies. Cook is creating interesting capabilities and products in areas of regenerative medicine and cellular therapies and we are excited by the potential treatment options this could provide for patients. We look forward to working with Cook scientists and engineers in this area."
Steve Ferguson, board chairman of Cook Group, says the partnership with the IBRI "provides opportunities to improve patient care while stimulating Indiana’s economy through the life sciences industry." Earlier this month, the institute announced the hiring of Rainer Fischer as chief scientific and innovation officer.
