In a notice to the state, the health system says the layoffs are the result of the hospital’s closure.
Community Health says the layoffs are expected to occur between December 13 and December 31. In a news release last week, the health system said it is closing the Westview Hospital after determining the west side of Indianapolis could be better served through an outpatient model of care.
"Our strategic planning process guides us to constantly and thoroughly analyze the needs of the central Indiana communities we serve, as well as carefully review health care industry trends," said Jason Fahrlander, president of acute care services for Community Health Network. "Community remains committed to serving Indianapolis’ west side communities and we have determined we can best do so through the delivery of ambulatory services, especially in the area of primary care."
The health system says some of the employees set to be laid off may transition into positions at other Community locations.
