Deaconess says the affiliation will elevate the standard of cancer care in the Tri-state region.
At a press conference Monday, Christopher Braden, chairman of the Deaconess Health System Oncology Committee, emphasized that the affiliation was not a merger or a buyout. He said the deal will give Deaconess access to more and better resources, creating a "win-win" situation for the health system’s patients.
"This collaboration will allow our local physicians the opportunity to become a certified member in the MD Anderson network," said Braden. "They can have access to evidence-based guidelines, treatment plans developed by MD Anderson experts and treatment plans that are above and beyond what we would normally be able to offer them here."
Braden says cancer specialists at Deaconess will also be able to consult directly with their counterparts at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
