The Lumina Foundation Adds to Leadership Team

Holly McKiernan (pictured) was promoted to chief operating officer and executive vice president. She directs the foundation’s legal affairs and also leads Lumina’s exploration of the Bologna Process and the implications of that reform effort on American higher education. Prior to joining Lumina in 2003, McKiernan was executive director and counsel for Alpha Chi Omega and advised universities on approaches to high-risk student behavior. Danette Howard (pictured) was appointed chief strategy officer and senior vice president. Prior to joining Lumina, she served as secretary of higher education in Maryland, leading the state’s postsecondary education coordinating agency, the Maryland Higher Education Commission. Courtney Brown was promoted to vice president of strategic impact. She joined the Foundation in 2011. Brown holds a bachelor’s degree from James Madison University and earned her master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. Debra Humphreys was hired as strategic engagement vice president.
