Vertellus Announces Layoffs

Indianapolis-based Vertellus Specialties Inc. has announced a reduction in its work force. In a notice to the state, the chemical manufacturing company said it is closing a portion of its Indianapolis plant, which will lead to the layoffs of 40-50 employees.

Vertellus currently employs 243 workers at the plant. The company says the layoffs will begin around October 17. The layoffs are due to the company’s "decision to terminate certain operations" at the facility.

Vertellus is currently in the midst of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy process. In June, the company announced it had cleared an early step in the process by receiving approval of all First Day Motions by a U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
