Next Project Wraps Up at Gary Airport

Another multi-million dollar project at the Gary/Chicago International Airport is complete. The crosswind runway is back in service after $2.4 million in rehabilitation work. It follows last year’s completion of the long-awaited, $174 million main runway expansion.

Executive Director Dan Vicari says "rehabilitating the airport’s crosswind runway is the latest in a series of infrastructure projects driving growth and increasing the marketability of the airport. I applaud NGC, K-Five Construction and the entire team for completing the project on time and under budget."

The project involved resurfacing, drainage, infrastructure and grading work. It’s the first part of two that airport officials say result in a 10-inch concrete surface on Runway 2-20.

Chairman Stephen Mays says "the rehabilitation of Runway 2-20 is the latest achievement in more than three years of progress at the airport, and we plan to continue to build on this momentum and invest in the infrastructure projects necessary to transform Gary/Chicago International Airport into an economic engine for the region."

Last month, a long-term master plan for the airport was also released.
