Tropicana Picks Firm For Inland Move

Subscribe NowThe Tropicana Casino in Evansville has chosen a Kentucky firm to oversee the move of the riverboat casino to the Ohio River shore. Encompass Develop, Design and Construct will manage the $50 million project, which will break ground Tuesday morning.
The project will include 45,000 square feet of new gaming space, as well as new dining and entertainment offerings. It is expected to open in December 2017. Tony Rodio, president and chief executive officer of Tropicana Evansville, will be joined by General Manager John Chaszar, Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke and Indiana Gaming Commission Executive Director Sara Tait for the ground breaking ceremony, which is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. CST.
Encompass is a project management and architecture firm specializing in the gaming and hospitality industries. Its previous clients include Churchill Downs Inc., Pinnacle Entertainment and Caesars Entertainment.
The Indiana Gaming Commission approved plans in February for Tropicana to become the state’s first land-based casino. The Indiana General Assembly paved the way for the move during the 2015 legislative session. A deal with the city of Evansville involving around $20 million in lease rent credits will keep the casino in Vanderburgh County at least through 2055.
