Wyandotte Caves State Recreation Area in Crawford County was shut down because of the spread of white-nose syndrome that effects bat species inhabiting the cave.
A ceremony this weekend in Leavenworth that included State Representative Lloyd Arnold (R-74) and Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb showcased the $1.7 million project to replace the main building on-site and re-wire the interior of the cave.
The cave is currently operated by the state and is located within the 24,000-acre Harrison Crawford State Forest.
Arnold’s first year in office was 2012 and he has championed the reopening of the attraction. His bill in the most recent legislative session made the decision official.
