The publication reports Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-88) has asked for legal advice on running for governor, leading many to believe he is preparing for Pence to step down. Trump and Pence will take part in a campaign rally Tuesday in Westfield.
The governor met with Trump recently in New Jersey. Afterward, Trump tweeted, "Spent time with Indiana Governor Mike Pence and family yesterday. Very impressed, great people!" Pence is facing a July 15 deadline to decide whether to continue his campaign for a second term as Indiana governor or step aside, potentially to run alongside Trump.
Another possibility to run for Indiana governor if Pence steps aside is Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb, who was sworn into office in March. He succeeded Sue Ellspermann, who recently began her new job as president of Ivy Tech Community College.
Last month, when President Barack Obama visited Elkhart to spotlight its economic comeback, Pence issued a statement saying the community is succeeding "in spite of the burdens that higher taxes, mandates and increasing regulations from Washington D.C." have placed on it. Instead, the governor said, "most of the credit belongs to the hard-working people of this community and the state."
Other rumored possibilities to take the spot as Trump’s running mate include New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and former U.S. Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.
