In a letter to supporters of the nonprofit organization, Travis DiNicola said he and his wife plan to move to Pennsylvania to pursue new career opportunities.
DiNicola touted the accomplishments of Indy Reads during his tenure, saying the organization served about 350 adult students when he started and now serves an average of 1,350 students annually. He said he is most proud of opening Indy Reads Books, a new and used bookstore in downtown Indianapolis, in 2012.
"I have had the privilege of working with some of the finest and most talented people I have ever known. I am so proud of what our dedicated staff, board, volunteers, donors, and partners have accomplished during this time. And I am especially proud of the work our students have done," said DiNicola. "We have developed many new programs to meet the needs of our students, and have expanded our reach to all of Central Indiana. And yet, there is much more work to do."
DiNicola said the organization’s board of directors has formed a succession planning committee to find his replacement. Until that time, Deputy Director Alyssa Newerth will serve as interim director.
