It provides an update on the Indiana Department of Education’s ongoing policy initiatives and priorities for the next session of the Indiana General Assembly.
Ritz says the goals of the Imagine 2020 plan include giving pre-kindergarten students access to fully-funded early learning programs, having students spend less time on testing and more time on actual learning, and achieving a 91 percent graduation rate, which would be the highest in the nation.
Ritz says the state must focus on three educational foundations in order to reach those goals. She says Indiana must have equity in student access to resources and instructional support, high-quality instruction from the best teachers, and a student-centered approach focusing on the diverse needs of each student.
"It is not enough for our schools to have equitable resources, they also have to maintain high quality," said Ritz. "Our schools are helping our children develop the knowledge and skills they will need as they lead Indiana to 2020 and beyond. The future of our state demands nothing less than an exceptional education for our future leaders, from Pre-K through graduation."
