The president will discuss the region’s economic resurgence and take part in a town hall.
When President Obama was running in 2008, Elkhart County was a focal point because it had the nation’s highest unemployment rate. However, the region has rebounded, regaining most of the jobs lost during the recession. During an interview earlier this month on Inside INdiana Business Television, Greater Elkhart Chamber of commerce President Kyle Hannon said, "The economy is just roaring…everybody is hiring." He says Elkhart County has been among the national leaders in adding jobs in recent years.
The majority of the audience will be made up of student and faculty from Concord Community High School. The president’s office says there will be "a very limited distribution of remaining tickets" for the public Tuesday from 8:00-10:00 a.m. at the high school’s McCuen Gym. After speaking at the school, President Obama will take part in a town hall hosted by PBS at the Lerner Theatre.
