Dawson to Retire at Earlham

Board of Trustees Chair Deborah Hull says the search is underway and a committee will identify the next president by the end of the year.
Dawson says "I have been honored and privileged to lead one of the world’s finest liberal arts colleges. As a community, we have created a foundation that has positioned Earlham to thrive in the face of whatever the future holds. More than ever before, Earlham’s curriculum is offering exciting opportunities for students to discover personally rewarding careers that can make positive social and ethical contributions to the world."
During his five years at the school, he has led a multi-year strategic plan designed to respond to challenges of higher education.
The college has undergone nearly $100 million in building renovations or additions, including the recently-complete May-Crossen Student Commons, the two-year-old Center for Visual and Performing Arts, the new Center for Science and Technology and renovated Stanley Hall.
Officials say enrollment has also begun to rise. The Class of 2020 is anticipated to be the largest "in recent decades."
In a letter to the Earlham community, Dawson said “I will work energetically with all of you over the coming year as we follow our values, pursue our mission, maintain our momentum, and continue to fashion a diverse, equitable and inclusive Earlham experience that transforms lives and changes the world for the better."
