Longtime College Football Coach Dies

Bill Bless, who also served as a mayor of Greenwood, was head coach at his alma mater from 1972-1993. His sons followed in his footsteps and became football coaches. Bless was 76.
He graduated from Warren Central High School in Indianapolis in 1957 and went on to Indiana Central College, now UIndy, completing a degree in 1963. He coached at high schools in Greenwood and Whiteland before returning to his college alma mater as an assistant football coach in 1970. He was promoted to head coach two years later, amassing a 114-98-9 record. He was three-time conference coach of the year with the Greyhounds.
While at UIndy, Bless also served as a professor. His public service career includes six years on the city council and was eventually elected mayor of Greenwood. Bless was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in 1994.
