Greenwood Begins Downtown Facade Project

The city of Greenwood has begun construction on a project to restore and renovate the facades of 24 downtown buildings. The $1.5 million project is being funded in part by a grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

The city says the project is part of Mayor Mark Myers’ commitment to preservation and downtown growth.

The project is expected to be completed by late fall or early winter. It is being funded by the city, a grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, and contributions from building owners.

"Large-scale growth and economic development cannot take place without addressing Greenwood’s core and its historical importance," said Myers. "The facade grant program will drastically improve the look and feel of several buildings in the heart of Greenwood. We’re also looking at future plans calling for additional infrastructure improvements, including streetscapes, sidewalks and public spaces that downtowns need to thrive."

All downtown businesses will be open to the public while the work is being done, including those that are being restored.
