Scott Bess will lead the school, which is scheduled to open in downtown Indy in August 2017.
Purdue Polytechnic High School is a STEM-focused school that the university says is "designed to provide a bridge for inner-city students and others to succeed in high school and to be admitted directly to Purdue University." Purdue President Mitch Daniels announced the creation of the school last June and the university received its charger from the city of Indianapolis in December.
Bess will begin his new role July 5. A Purdue graduate, Bess has spent the past 16 years with Goodwill Industries, originally serving as chief information officer. He landed his current role with Goodwill Education Initiatives in 2004.
"I am incredibly honored to be selected as the first head of school for Purdue Polytechnic High School," said Bess. "I would like to thank the leaders of Purdue and the board of the Purdue Polytechnic High School for creating the vision of an innovative school offering opportunities for students that are not present today. Starting a new school is always a challenge, but partnering with a world-class institution raises the bar for what is possible."
According to the school board of directors, a location for the high school is expected to be announced in the next few months. You can find more information on Purdue Polytechnic High School by clicking here. You can also view the video below:
