Subscribe NowAs the MatchBOX coworking space in Lafayette approaches its second anniversary, one of its first tenants says its success is a prime example of a growing trend. Cortland Starrett, who is chief executive officer of One Fact Inc. and ROX Software Inc., says for many companies, the concept of a brick and mortar office is "fading away." MatchBOX, which launched in 2014, has grown to more than 200 members. Starrett expects the coworking trend to continue to grow, as even larger companies like Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) and Alcoa Inc. (NYSE: AA) take advantage of their resources.
MatchBOX offers features to basic members including desk space, gigabit fiber and wireless access, event space, conference rooms and lockers. Other membership tiers allow access to equipment including 3D printers and laser-cutting tools.
Indiana has seen its share of coworking growth. Among the most recent examples is Launch Terre Haute, which opened recently in The Deming in the city. The building, which recently underwent $6 million in renovations, also includes more than 100 apartment units and commercial retail space. Other spaces have opened over the last year in Kokomo, Westfield and the WestGate@Crane Technology Park.
Another prime example is Launch Fishers, which opened in its new, 52,000 square-foot location last month. The facility includes 13 office suites, member workspace, 18 meeting rooms, conference space and a larger coffee shop. Launch Fishers currently boasts a member base of more than 300 companies.
Last month, a coworking space dedicated specifically to nonprofits opened in Indianapolis. Launch Cause features 14 offices, 21 work stations and coworking space for up to 30 people. The space already boasts members including the Hoosier Farmers Market Association, the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon and the Indiana Music and Entertainment Museum.
Starrett says MatchBOX provides key resources for local companies.
